We don’t want to bug you, but we’re buzzing with excitement over this event! Come to the Science Mill for a day of hands-on insect activities (that’s right, we said hands-on and insect activities in the same sentence!) and live presentations.

Radford's Roach Roadshow is bringing their world-famous Madagascar hissing cockroaches!

11am-2pm

The Radford University Department of Biology is on a mission to educate America about science! Through their hands-on activities and live demos, the Radford team helps remind people to ask WHY things are the way they are and HOW things work the way they work. Hands-on activities include: build-a-bug, hold a Madagascar hissing cockroach, get up close and personal with roach anatomy using real microscopes, and more!

Bugs! A Rainforest Adventure 3D movie

(Movie showtimes at 12pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm)

One day only! Bugs! A Rainforest Adventure explores the dramatic and savage lives of an Old World praying mantis and a beautiful butterfly. This film combines incredible footage with cutting-edge technology to deliver a fantastically entertaining and enlightening experience about the little guys in life.

Hands-on Investigative Station and Living Local and Beneficial Bugs

11am-3pm

Observe some living local and beneficial insects and learn how they fit into our thriving ecosystem. Don’t miss flesh-eating dermestid beetles as they feast on a mouse, then use iGo microscopes or handheld magnifying glasses to investigate the bodies of ants, butterflies, locust wings, and mantis legs.

Associate Professor Dr. Nels C. Elde from the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Utah will be here to show us just how a virus can turn insects into real life zombies! You won’t want to miss this! Limited seating available. Pre-order your tickets below to reserve your spot. UPDATE: Pre-sale wristbands for show are sold out. Extra seating in theater dependent on availability at start time of each show.
