May Homeschool Day - Be A Coder

Careers in Coding & Computer Science
Plus, STEM Scholar Graduation!
Everyone should learn how to code, it teaches you how to think.  --Steve Jobs

Career Expert Talks
11:30am and 1:00pm
Jennie Kam from Cisco will join us to talk about cybersecurity and staying safe online.

Bonus Activity: Play Pitching Packets with Cisco Employees!
Space is limited to 30 students per session. Cisco will be on site to run the game twice during Homeschool Day:  11:00am and 12:30pm.

The Pitching Packets Game demonstrates important networking lessons, like how internet traffic is fragmented, how core routers handle the most internet traffic, what slows down a network, and internet security.

 Hands-on Activities
Stations run continuously from 11am-2pm

Binary Code Bracelets
Binary Code is how computers store information. Examine the code, learn the binary alphabet, and then make a bracelet of your initials in binary code!

Botley Coding Challenge Course
Botley the robot is ready to run through our challenge course.  Can you code him to successfully complete the challenge?

Learning Labs and Pricing:
$5 for non-members
$4.50 for members
Learning Labs are included for STEM Scholars

Due to the popularity of Learning Labs, reservations are strongly encouraged. Space is limited! Email fieldtrips@sciencemill.org to reserve your child's spot.

K-2 - Learning to Code with Hotwheels, 10:30am, lasts 45 minutes
Take turns being the “programmers” and the “robot car.” Use coding cards to see who can program the robot car to complete the race track course without running into hot lava!

3-5 - MicroPet, 11:30am, lasts one hour
Create a pet by coding your MicroBit! Your pet will light up with different shapes and faces, and it will play music in response to different actions.

6-8 - Ardueno K’Nex, 1pm, lasts one hour
Test your coding skills! Code an Arduino to control a servo, and move a pre-made K’Nex machine.

STEM Scholar Graduation - 2:30pm
Please join us in the backyard Science and Art Park to celebrate the accomplishments of our inaugural STEM Scholars! Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
