Conversation Starters: Knight Anoles
Come meet some special visitors from our friends at Reptilandia Reptile Lagoon on-site through the month of August. Our new friends, the knight anoles, are on a quest to spark your young herpetologist’s curiosity in our BioLab. Come out to meet them, and use these conversation starters to spark discussion with your elementary, middle school or high school student.
Elementary School:
Knight anoles can change color depending on the light, their stress levels and their hunger. If you were able to change colors, which color would you like to be? What would make you change color?
Middle School:
Knight anoles are unique because they change color. What do you think causes them to change? (Stress levels, hunger, sunlight levels).
Knight anoles are very territorial and will puff themselves up with air to frighten potential predators. How do you think this tactic intimidates its potential predators?
High School:
What do you think are the biggest potential threats to knight anoles as a species? (Human activity and new predators that are introduced to their habitats). How can we minimize those threats?
